Home Sweet Home

Saturday, December 15th...the day the girls came home. With great excitement and trepidation we ventured home with Abigail and Molly driving about 40km/hr! It was great to finally be home, but we our first thoughts were, "now what?"
The question we were most frequently asked after we returned home was "where do they sleep?"

The girls sleep together, in their room, in the same crib all swaddled up (a new talent I picked up at the hospital) side by side. The first few nights we slept with their bedroom door open and the baby monitor on. Although I thought I wouldn't sleep a wink since the girls were feeding every 2.5-3 hours around the clock, the second my head hit the pillow I would fall right asleep. I don't recall my bed ever being as comfortable as it was during the first week home from the hospital. After a few days the monitor was off and their bedroom door was ajar. It became much easier to fall asleep knowing by the time we finished feeding the girls we would only be getting 1-2 hours of sleep.

Slowly but surely as the days past, Shawn and I got the girls into more and more of a routine. We tracked when they fed, how much they ate, what type of diapers they had....it seemed tedious at first but tracking helped us newbie parents determine if the girls were eating enough. (I think like all new parents this was a big concern for us)

One side effect of all the feedings was all the diapers!!! Thank you City of St. Catharines for allowing parents with two or more children in diapers to put out an extra bag of garbage (free of charge), as long as it's all diapers. Now each week I feel sorry for my garbage man as he hauls away a big bag of Diaper Genie diaper sausages. The Diaper Genie has to be one of the BEST baby gear inventions. It makes disposing of 16-20 diapers a day not so smelly! Shawn and I laugh when we recall how before the girls arrived we were unsure about our skill level of changing diapers...let's just say we've had a lot of practice. :-)

That's a lot of diapers!!!
